Every Week Adventure

Christian scouts in the Black Forest. If you consider a little bit of crazy to be perfectly normal, then you're exactly right for us.

Who We Are

Royal Rangers is a worldwide scouting movement that originated in the USA and has since been adapted in many countries around the world. In Germany, we've been active for over 40 years now.

Our goal is to nurture, challenge, and involve children and young people holistically through experiential, nature-based learning. Our approach combines two passions: for nature and for Jesus Christ.

In this way, children and young people not only learn to handle maps, compasses, knots, fire, and more, but also discover that God has a plan for His creation and His creatures – namely, each and every one of us! This happens within the community of a team, which is in turn part of an outpost, guided by the principle of valuing others above oneself.

Our Outpost

Feeling at home in nature, campfires, music, camps, scouting skills, experiential education, being part of a team, fun, and a solid foundation through God's plan for our lives – that's who we are. Outpost 408 is one of two outposts in Freudenstadt. Our leaders call Crossroads International Church home.

Growing Through Serving

Our motivation is grounded in the foundation of Royal Rangers. We believe that an encounter with Jesus Christ is the best thing that can happen to you personally in life. At the same time, it's important to us that everyone is welcome. No one is forced into faith. Our faith is reflected in the way we live and is passed on through life experience and personal testimonies.

Growth Path

Four Levels,
One Path

In life, we never stop learning. As we grow older, we grow in every area of our lives, broadening our horizons and gathering experiences that move us forward. When needed, we also grow beyond ourselves.

From 1st Grade

Explorers

We Explorers are a colorful mix of boys and girls always eager to find out what's next. Together as a team we explore the animal and plant world, enjoy time with stories and campfires, and practice simple hands-on skills. Across six levels, we each explore an animal and its habitat – from salamander to eagle.

Scouts

We practice basic scouting skills, cook our food over the fire, hike through the woods, and get to know God's big plan for our lives. Starting with the Observer test and working up to the Master test, we learn about scouting skills, nature, and first aid. The annual camp is a highlight for us.

Pathfinders

Here, the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Lily tests go to the heart of our scouting and spiritual foundation and beyond. Alongside camps, we now also take on hikes – multi-day expeditions into our second home: nature. Whether by bike, canoe, or simply on foot – adventure is included and guaranteed.

Trail Rangers

We cultivate community and friendship within the team, build our own camp furniture, and engage with questions about God and the world. Through various tests, we're challenged to lend others a helping hand. As junior leaders, we take on responsibility ourselves and learn to lead others – here, we're taken seriously as individuals.

What We
Live By

The Promise

With the Lord's help, I will do my best to serve God, my church, and my fellowmen; to live by the Ranger Code; and to make the Golden Rule my daily rule.

All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.

The Golden Rule · Matthew 7:12
The Emblem

Our emblem – a star reminiscent of a compass rose – goes back to our founder, Johnnie Barnes. He drew the first star and gave each point its meaning.

Four Gold Points – The Areas of Growth physical, mental, spiritual, social
Four Red Points – The Core Truths of the Church salvation, the Holy Spirit, healing, the return of Jesus
Eight Blue Points – The Ranger Code alert, clean, honest, courageous, loyal, courteous, obedient, spiritual

The Ranger Outfit

The outfit fosters a sense of belonging, helps Rangers easily identify with the group, bridges social differences, and above all, marks us as scouts. It connects us with scouts worldwide and is at the same time a rugged piece of clothing that faithfully accompanies us through all our outdoor activities. It is not a uniform and has no connection to military clothing. We wear it regularly at all meetings.

The Growth Path

Each child can gradually complete various tests appropriate to their age. Badges are awarded for these and worn on the outfit. Where each patch goes is explained in the guide under "Downloads." You can order the outfit and patches from the Royal Rangers Shop – or simply ask us at an outpost meeting.

Our Motto

Ready!

As Royal Rangers, we are always ready to put our promise, the Golden Rule, and the meaning behind our emblem into practice.
